People inside the hotel were evacuated, but no least none that were reported.

"It was kinda unreal", said Kim, who recorded cellphone video of the Thursday night fire.

"The sidewalk was just packed with spectators", said Kim, 30, of Los Angeles. "It smelled like plastic burning".

Haydu said the location of the fire made access hard, according to the Associated Press. Roads surrounding the property were closed off while the flames were put down.

Fire inspectors are checking out the damage and working tirelessly to figure out what might have started the blaze. Officials haven't said what the damage estimate is but that it will amount to the cost of a new awning. A total of 77 personnel had arrived at the scene to control the fire. The cause of the fire isn't immediately known. The hotel, which has almost 4,000 rooms, is one of the largest in the world. "We didn't know if it was an auto that flipped over or something like that", she said.

Some patrons of the hotel and casino carried on gambling as normal. The main artery was shut down as the Fire Dept. struggled to contain the blaze. No guests were affected, and no evacuations were needed, Sessions said.
