The press secretary reportedly told members of the press in December that he didn't want to be the only face in front of the cameras, indicating that several members of the White House communications team would be in charge of running the press briefings on a revolving basis.

The cohost of Fox's The Five was once in the running to be press secretary, and has been a strident defender of the president. If she gets the job, it won't be much of a change from her current role at Fox: routinely praising President Donald Trump, defending him unquestioningly, and lashing out at media outlets daring to report critically on his actions.

PIRRO: Will he be there tomorrow? More than a third of the tweets and retweets Guilfoyle's posted since May 11 are just Trump retweets.

TRUMP: He's getting beat up. We knew he had to come by us to get back into the White House.

".And here's the thing, the difference between me and another president". Another president, I won't use names but another president doesn't do what I'm doing. they really don't.

Guilfoyle didn't bat an eyelash at the prospect of jumping into that cauldron. She joined Fox News as a legal analyst in 2006. The firebrand conservative was divorced from liberal California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsome, who was then San Francisco mayor, in 2006 after four years marriage, noted the news group.

Sean Spicer refuses to comment when pressed three times by RealClearPolitics White House correspondent Alexis Simendinger about the president's comment that there might be tapes of Oval Office conversations, during Monday's press briefing.

As if it wasn't enough for Melissa McCarthy to make Donald Trump's press secretary, Sean Spicer, the butt of frequent jokes on Saturday Night Live, the Victoria post-secondary instructor's lampooning of him: "Garden Spicer", has become something of an Internet sensation. According to The New York Times, the reason Spicer didn't know about the Comey firing ahead of time was because Trump was anxious about leaks. It's hard to imagine her being significantly worse at the position than the oft-flustered Spicer. And otherwise you're driving blind'. "It has to be somebody with a very close relationship, where there's trust there, there's inherent loyalty, someone who's been there from the beginning".

Guilfoyle has served as a cohost on The Five on Fox News Channel since 2011.

Guilfoyle's Twitter account also highlights her Trump praise. Though there's been no official word out of the White House regarding either Spicer or Guilfoyle's future in the administration, Guilfoyle herself said she would find the job "fascinating".

As President Trump finds himself enmeshed in yet another media firestorm, fingers are pointing at the communications staffers who represent him to the press and the public.
