ICC Test rankings: Virat Kohli-led team India retain number one spot

India have retained the No 1 ranking in Tests after a magnificent performance in the last couple of seasons.

India have retained their top position in ICC Test ranking with 123 points - a clear six point lead over second-placed South Africa.

India was the number 1 Test team after they won the Border-Gavaskar trophy defeating Australia.

Australia held on to the third position by a slender thread, having lost eight points as per the update, which now separates them and the seventh ranked Sri Lanka (91 points) by only nine points. The annual update this time took into account several factors. India have gained one ranking point while South Africa have leapt from 109 to 117 points, meaning the Proteas have trimmed the pre-update gap of 13 points to just six.

In recent matches, India registered series wins against West Indies when they visited the Caribbean previous year while thumped New Zealand, England and Australia in home series. The series results from 2013-14 were no longer included while outcome from the 2015-16 series had a weightage of 50 percent in the points calculation.

Meanwhile, Australia have been slipped to the third position. The Indian side are followed by South Africa who trail them by 6 points.

New Zealand, Bangladesh and West Indies, all gained one, three and five points each.

Bangladesh and Zimbabwe with 69 and 0 points respectively are at the bottom of the list.
