Paul George #13 of the Indiana Pacers dribbles the ball during the game against the Charlotte Hornets at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on December 12, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The All-NBA voting may have opened a clearer path for Gordon Hayward to head for Boston this offseason.

So, with George missing out on the All-NBA teams, he is no longer able to sign the Designated Player Exception, which could have been signed as an extension. Additionally, these extensions can have annual raises of 7.5% compared to the four-year contracts, worth 30% of the cap, with 4.5% yearly raises that other teams can offer.

The Pacers will have a big advantage in retaining George if he's named to an All-NBA team on Thursday.

George, 27, just wrapped up his third season of a five-year, $91 million contract. Here are all the latest National Basketball Association rumors you need to know. But because he fell short this year, he isn't eligible for the DPVE, with only one All-NBA honor in the last three seasons.

According to Sam Amick of USA Today, Paul George wants to join the team that his idol, Kobe Bryant, led for years. IN was swept by Cleveland in the first round of this year's playoffs. If Butler makes All-NBA again next year, he'll be eligible.

The Pacers are now left with a decision about whether to take the risk or try to trade George now and get something in return.

Now, it's still the case where the incumbent free agent team can offer more money and a 5th year to their on FAs whereas a poaching team could only offer 4.

Either way, the time is now for general manager Kevin Pritchard to have a conversation with his team's star and determine if the Pacers have a chance of retaining George beyond next season.

It was a hard season for George, though, as his name was mentioned in trade rumors during the trade deadline. While the Lakers may have a number of talented youngsters and another one coming in June, they don't have (or haven't yet identified) the player that they can truly build their team around.

As we near the summer, free agent rumors will begin to circulate. Despite having arguably the best team in the NBA, none of its players made the All-NBA First Team.

The Atlanta Hawks offered four first round picks to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Paul George at the trade deadline.
