At least five jurors started crying after the verdict was read, the Tulsa World reported.

"She's ready to get back to her life", defence attorney Shannon McMurray said. They left the courthouse without giving statements to reporters.

"Do you obviously believe Officer Shelby is a trigger-happy woman when she has never fired her gun before in over 11 years?"

Shelby also said she feared Crutcher was under the influence of PCP, a powerful hallucinogenic known as Angel Dust that makes users erratic, unpredictable and combative.

Video from after the verdict reveals Shelby and her legal team running to a parked vehicle outside of the courthouse. As Crutcher walked up to his vehicle, with his hands up, police officers were yelling commands at him, which he did not follow.

Crutcher's family was quickly ushered out of the courtroom sobbing and wailing after the decision.

In Novermber, a judge order Shelby to stand trial after deciding there is enough evidence for her to do so.

In an exclusive interview with "60 Minutes" last month, Shelby said she felt nearly any police officer in her position would have acted as she did.

Police videos of the incident were seen globally, and some civil rights advocates have argued that race was a factor.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler commended the jury for their service, and noted that the case was a hard one.

Each time these kinds of cases go before legal authorities, I do something illogical, something I've tried very hard to stop: I have hope. "We need better training for police officers!" Terence did not attack her, Terence did not charge her. Terence was not the aggressor, Betty Shelby was the aggressor. Seconds after someone in the helicopter (perhaps the same individual) said, "I think he may have just been tasered", Shelby fired shots. "As I said before also, we are prepared for anything, but we're expecting exactly what we got last night - peaceful protests".

"The facts were there, all the elements of manslaughter were there", she said. Terence's hands were in the air.

They asked Shelby why she didn't use a Taser instead of a gun.

"Prosecutors said Shelby acted out of fear when she shot Terence Crutcher on September 16", Matt Trotter of member station KWGS reports From Tulsa. Shelby had been charged with first-degree manslaughter days after the killing.

Police Chief Chuck Jordan said Thursday during a news conference that the protest was peaceful and he expects that to continue. And these are officers who are paid to serve and protect us. They said Crutcher overreacted.

Crutcher's family called the verdict a disappointment.

"Those who disagree with the verdict have the right to express their opinions", she said in a statement.

The jury's finding prompted a demonstration outside the courthouse, with protesters chanting, "Hands up, don't shoot!" and "Not justice, no peace!"
