Networking, connecting, pitching - it's all routine in the business world.

The program has always been criticized by lawmakers as a path that in essence sells United States citizenships to wealthy foreigners.

It underscores the extent to which Kushner's private business interests have the potential to collide with his powerful role as a top official in his father-in-law's White House, particularly when it comes to China, where Kushner has become a crucial diplomatic channel between Beijing and the new administration, the report said.

"Jared has done everything to comply with the ethics rules to make sure and that had nothing to do with him per se, he wasn't involved", Spicer said. The New York Times says its reporters were kicked out of the Sunday investor presentation, along with The Post.

Kushner's sister, Nicole Kushner Meyer, took to the stage at Beijing's Ritz-Carlton hotel on Saturday as part of a tour of mainland cities to attract wealthy Chinese investors into a New Jersey luxury development with the chance of getting a USA green card in return.

It was not immediately known whether any of the wealthy people who listened to the Kushner company pitch in Beijing made a decision to invest. The yield has been 77,150 full-time jobs and approximately $4.2 billion in investment - trivial in relation to the giant USA economy.

Jared Kushner, 36, is both a senior adviser and the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump with far-reaching influence over domestic and foreign policy.

"You would think if they are going to take part in a marketing event for one of their properties, that they would want to see the PowerPoint", he said. "And it's a very valuable thing in a lot of other countries", he said. But one kind of former ethics lawyer under the George W. Bush administration called it highly inappropriate.

"Abuse of power pure and simple".

In exchange for their investment, investors receive a two-year visa that comes with a likelihood of subsequently receiving permanent status.

Now led by Kushner's relatives, the Kushner Companies had earlier been negotiating with China's Anbang Insurance Group to provide what could be hundreds of millions of dollars in equity for redevelopment of a Manhattan office building.

Journalists had been asked to leave the room in Beijing.

Critics say numerous investments purportedly aimed at assisting poor areas of the USA have instead wound up going to projects in more affluent neighborhoods, while many programs have been badly hit by fraud scandals.

Blake Roberts, Mr Kushner's attorney, said on Saturday that he has divested his interests in the One Journal Square project.

"In 2008, my brother Jared Kushner joined the family company as CEO, and recently moved to Washington to join the administration", Meyer said. At that time, he resigned from the daily operations, and sold assets in some projects to family members.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary immigration subcommittee, said in an interview Sunday that it was "pretty sketchy" for Meyer to make her sales pitch given that the program's continued existence is in doubt, and the backlog of applications from Chinese investors may add five years to the process.
