Mourinho's side looked sharp as they were put through their paces at Carrington on Friday morning and the Red Devils boss looked to be in good spirits.

Jose Mourinho has admitted he is concerned about throwing in several youngsters against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but believes he has no choice.

"To play so many kids at the same time I don't think it's good because there is a big difference in quality strength and experience".

After a season, where United's title challenge was non-existent, Mourinho chose to even abandon the Premier League as it became clear that even a fourth spot was out of reach, instead choosing to focus on the Europa League. He had said: "We won a League Cup".

"I think if a team goes to the Champions League and then doesn't qualify, should go home, shouldn't have the opportunity to go and play Europa League". "I always disagree with it, I think a team shouldn't play two European competitions in the same season".

He needs to play on Sunday", Mourinho said of the French global who recently lost his father but was present at United's training session on Friday.

"I think one in the middle of a good structure, a dynamic structure, an experienced structure, I think, yes". We wait for today's scans. "I don't know about Wayne or not - he played 90 minutes in the last match, so probably not".

He has only made two league appearances for the Under-23 side this season, although one of them came when Mourinho was in attendance against Tottenham on Monday.

Other starters at Southampton including Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe trained away from the main group along with Antonio Valencia, who was rested.

The Special One conceded he was not introducing them to the first team in ideal circumstances, though, per Rathborn: "I prefer to hand debuts to only one young player at a time".
