A 14-year-old boy has been shot and killed in Princeton.

Police say they were called to the home in the eastern Minnesota city of Princeton on Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, police found a 14-year-old boy dead at home.

The victim, Eric Nelson, was identified Tuesday, by his family and Princeton Schools Superintendent Julia Espe.

Eric's mother, Laurie Blegen-Nelson, says her son was a strong-willed kid with a big heart who loves his three siblings "more than life itself".

Frederick said there is no reason to believe there is a danger to the public.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Princeton Police Department and the Mille Lacs County sheriff's office are investigating the shooting.
