New England Patriots Talk: Blount Signs with the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles, who have their future invested in quarterback Carson Wentz, followed that formula.

Blount, who will turn 31 in December, is coming off a career season for the Super Bowl champion Patriots.

The Eagles were one of the biggest distributors of carries in the NFL last season, being tenth in the league in total rushing but with Ryan Mathews being the top rusher with just 661 yards.

The players, especially the running back room, are close with Blount and the coaching staff heaps praise on his professional approach and willingness to play whatever role he is assigned. "I'm here for it". "I'm gonna be at games watching them, for sure. I'm very excited to be here and compete with those guys, and hopefully, make some room for myself". Last season, the Eagles running backs combined for 13 TDs in 44 carries inside the 10. "It's easy to stay healthy at that point".

The Eagles would appear to have complementary parts with Blount as the obvious running-down, short-yardage and goal line option, Sproles the change-of-pace, pass-catching, third-down blocking option, and Smallwood and Pumphrey as a mixture of both depending upon the circumstance. So I want to be a part of that.

"I chose the Eagles for the specific reason of me fitting in really good here", Blount explained. Have a championship run. "We feel good about the depth and competition that we have created at the running back position and we are looking forward to getting the guys out on the field next week for (organized team activities)".

Blount feels the Eagles were a really good team before he came and mentioned players such as Brian Dawkins, Duce Staley, and Donovan McNabb when he pointed towards Philadelphia's legacy.

LeGarrette Blount is going to fit in just fine around here. When you add those names to Jordan Matthews, Darren Sproles, Zach Ertz, Jason Peters, Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks, the Eagles offense certainly seems improved from where they were at this time a year ago. "Tom is an incredible player". In fact, the only players heavier than him on the roster are linemen and tight ends.

That's the Patriot Way, as opposed to the Eagle Way. But when you consider what Blount has done as a Patriot and the historic season that he just had in New England, it is unusual that his departure hasn't met with more acrimony or fan apprehension.

"As a running back, you want to get into a rhythm of the game, see how the defense is playing, what the flow of the game is", Blount said. This leads to one question and that is if the New England Patriots will be missing his services. "So I don't think you need to bring the culture of any team here simply because they have their own".
