Newcastle United are reportedly planning to make a fresh approach for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney after being knocked back in January.

Ryan Sessegnon, who turns 17 on Thursday, and 13-goal midfielder Tom Cairney are expected to be the subject of interest from Premier League sides this summer.

Slavisa Jokanovic agonisingly missed out on the chance of becoming the first foreign boss to bag two promotions up to the Premier League after his Fulham side lost 2-1 on aggregate to Reading in the play-off semi-finals.

When asked whether he believes he is good enough for the Premier League, Cairney said: "Every player has to back themselves to play at that level and I believe once I get there - and I hope it's with Fulham - I will really show I can do things and that level. They have promised me these players are going to stay with us", Jokanovic was quoted by the London Evening Standard.

"Next season will be complicated, and we will push to be promoted".

They are going to stay with us. "We must be clever in the period in front of us", he added.

Cairney meanwhile scored 12 goals from midfield this campaign for Fulham and was also the Championship's leading passer, attempting 3,341 this campaign.

"We haven't done it this season, so it's clear we need to improve our squad and be more competitive in the season ahead".

'From the season before when people said we we were relegation candidates, to now and at times to play some of the most attractive football in the Championship, we have to take that into next season.
