Pakistan in trouble early in second dig

Pakistan were made to scrap their way to a 300 run lead as wickets tumbled with the surface becoming harder to bat on.

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir had figures of 23-11-24-0.

Chasing 304 to win the three-match rubber 2-1, the Windies closed on seven for one from 6.3 overs after Kieran Powell was caught at silly point off leg-spinner Yasir Shah to what proved to be the final ball of the day.

Painfully slow at the start of his innings, the Pakistan skipper showed a greater degree of urgency through the afternoon, adding 51 and completing a 39th fifty in Test cricket. As Yasir grew more unsafe with every passing over, Chase chose to take him on, picking him for a boundary and a six in the same over with two audacious hits. He received on-field treatment before retiring hurt in the 84th over with Pakistan on 183-4.

Amir raised the visitors' hopes of earning a potentially decisive first-innings lead when he removed Shane Dowrich to just the fourth ball of the day as the wicketkeeper-batsman's lazy stab outside the off-stump dragged the ball back onto his stumps without any addition to the overnight score. Three overs later, left-hander Vishaul Singh was out leg before wicket for 8 to Abbas at 189-5, and failed to overturn the decision on a wildly optimistic review. Jason Holder too is still at the crease batting on 22.

A wicket off the last ball of the second session - by Azhar Ali, of all people - meant Pakistan could claim a share of a session that had until then belonged to the West Indies.

West Indies resumed second innings on fifth day of the last Test on Sunday requiring 297 runs with nine wickets in hand however, Yasir Shah clinched an early wicket. West Indies had lost two wickets adding just 40 in the morning.

The series, tied at 1-1, moves to Dominica for the deciding Test. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah finished with 7/94, his 10th Test five-for. But the wily legspinner had the last laugh again, getting one to turn in sharply from the rough, kissing Hetmyer's gloves with Sarfraz Ahmed taking a sharp catch.
