A former Playboy playmate charged with secretly taking a photo of a woman at a Los Angeles gym and uploading it to Snapchat, accompanied by an offensive comment, has been sentenced to probation and community service, writes Pam Ryan.

The blonde posted the photo on her Snapchat account in 2016, captioning: "If I can not overlook this, then you certainly cannot".

Mathers' post caused public outcry as users on Snapchat accused the model of body shaming.

After the body-shaming incident sparked widespread outrage, the 2015 Playmate of the Year insisted she had inadvertently published the photo publicly despite her intention to send it privately to a friend.

"I think she wanted to be done with this and accept responsibility for what occurred", her attorney, Dana Cole, told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.

"She never imagined it would get this out of control", Mesereau said of Mathers. "Never meant to hurt anyone", Mesereau told CNN affiliate KABC.

Mathers was also ordered to pay the woman $60 to replace a backpack seen in the photo so the woman wouldn't easily be identified. Mathers and her legal team went with the latter option, so look for her cleaning up tagging while trying not to fall off an L.A. overpass. After previously pleading not guilty, she pleaded guilty on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times. Both came with 36 months probation.

In a Los Angeles courtroom earlier today, Mathers was given two choices for her crime: do 45 days in the joint or remove graffiti.

Defendants who plead no contest do not admit guilt but do not dispute the charges and are convicted. "This country has a growing problem of bullying through body-shaming on social media that needs to be addressed", says California State Senator Cathleen Galgiani.

In a video on Snapchat, the social media app she shared the photo on, Mathers said an accident was to blame.
