Paramount Pictures has released a brand new Transformers: The Last Knight worldwide trailer, the fifth film in the Transformers franchise. The trailer tells us more about the film's plot details as it looks to explore the Transformer's secret past on earth, as well the reason why they keep returning to the planet. But, the key to saving humanity's future is buried in the secrets of the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. They will do this at the behest of Sir Edmund Burton, played by Anthony Hopkins. Sure, The Last Knight will be big, loud, dumb, and we'll never believe Mark Whalberg as an inventor, but it'll be three hours of pure madness from a 52 year-old director who never stopped playing at being 14. Many have criticised Bay's filmmaking in the past, with his love for over-the-top disaster sequences being pointed out as a negative time and time again. Regardless of critical reception, the Transformers films have done extremely well financially; the first four films earned over $US3.7 billion (!) in worldwide box office receipts.

For centuries - millennia, even - they have defended our world, but Transformers: The Last Knight will see that alliance shatter into a million pieces of junk and metal as today's final worldwide trailer attests. Check out the new trailer below.

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Only one world will survive: "theirs, or ours", says Paramount.

Directed by Michael Bay, the movie is set for release June 21.
