What Will Fall's Windows 10 Update Bring?

Microsoft Corp.is unveiling an update to Windows 10, adding key features that are likely to benefit users of gadgets that run rival mobile operating systems iOS and Android.

Microsoft announced at its Build 2017 event that the next major Windows 10 update will be called the Fall Creators Update. But the goal is creating an experience that transcends borders - for the Windows Story Remix App is also available on Apple and Android devices.

Apple and Google already offer similar tools to manage images.

Microsoft said Thursday that Apple's popular iTunes music app would be made available to people through the Windows Store by the end of the year. Fluent Design pushes Windows 10 further away from the Metro UI introduced with Windows 8.

Finally, Microsoft introduced Clipboard, which lets you copy and paste between your Windows PC and your smartphone - Android or iPhone.

It also added that, "Fluent Design enables the creation of more expressive and engaging experiences that work continuously across devices-from large screens, to small screens, to no screen-all in a way that will drive higher engagement and love for your apps". However, many were anxious about the little amount of love shown to the Windows Mobile platform this year, affirming speculations about the collapse of the platform. Microsoft showed how AI technology picks the best clips and photos and puts them together, and how the user can tweak that to focus on one person or ink text on a person that stays with them as the video continues.

Presumably, for apps that don't support pulling your clipboard directly from Microsoft Graph, the Android/iOS Cortana app will keep your clipboard synced at a system level too. You can therefore go back in time to find what you were working on, scrub through your history of open apps and documents, and restore a session. While Microsft didn't demonstrate how'd the new fluent design would look on Project Scorpio, we can assume Microsoft will use the design across all their platforms.

The Redmond, Washington, company calls the emerging field "mixed reality" because it melds the artificial with things that are actually happening around us.

Microsoft's also looking to make headway into the retail space with its first-ever Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers.

One of the highlights of Microsoft's Build presentation is Story Remix. At its Build conference, Microsoft also revealed that Windows 10 is now installed on 500 million devices worldwide, making it "the most used version of Windows ever".
