The second alleged attacker was identified by police as Rachid Redouane, who alternately used the surname Elkhdar, and claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan.

Specialist officers are working with victims' families and the coroner to formally identify those who were killed.

Tensions between Westminster and the White House have been fraught for several weeks after intelligence gathered by the United Kingdom security services on the Manchester Arena attack was leaked to USA media.

Sky News reported that Redouane was married to a Scottish woman and had lived in Dublin during the a year ago. Melissa McMullan said the family believed it was him, although a coroner's report was pending.

Canadian national Christine Archibald, 30, died in her fiance's arms after being struck by the attackers' speeding van on London Bridge. May has been more measured, defending Mayor Sadiq Khan but not directly criticizing Trump.

She added: "It is also about the powers you give to the police and I have been responsible for giving the police extra powers to deal with terrorism". We are the safest global city in the world.

At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"

The attacks, that came came less than a week before parliamentary election, left seven dead, including foreign nationals, and dozens injured, 18 in a critical condition.

While those two battle it out and Khan does all the things he deemed more important than responding to Trump's "ill-informed tweet", Trump will have a chance to boost ties with an increasingly eager ally - Romania.

After more than 20 people were killed in a bomb attack last month at a concert in Manchester, England, Trump condemned the assault as the act of "evil losers" and called on nations to band together to fight terrorism.

May said she has protected police budgets and increased the number of armed officers and matched Corbyn's finger-pointing with some of her own, saying her opponent wasn't fit to safeguard Britain at a time of heightened threat.

Three Metropolitan Police officers and one British Transport Police officer were injured during the attack, the police said in a statement Monday, and one of the officers is still in serious condition. Corbyn, she said, would not empower them to hunt terrorists.

Police arrested 12 people in London's Barking district following the attack, though one was later released. One of the men has since been released from custody.

Police said little about the additional arrests in the same general part of the city, other than to confirm that more raids had taken place early Monday.

"However, there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritized accordingly", Rowley said.

Khan and Police Commissioner Cressida Dick toured the site of the attack and praised the quick police work that they said prevented further deaths. "It will only be defeated when we turn people's minds away from this violence and make them understand that our values - pluralistic British values - are superior to anything offered by the preachers and supporters of hate", she said.

A vigil will be held in central London on Monday evening to remember the victims of the attack. May was wise to say the attack would not delay parliamentary elections set for June 8.
