Trump spoke to the Saudi king Tuesday, the White House said, delivering a very similar message.

Senior members of Qatar's ruling family and one of the Gulf region's biggest charities were today accused of supporting terrorism.

Senegal also said on Wednesday it would recall its ambassador in Qatar and expressed its "active solidarity" with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries which have cut ties to Qatar."Senegal has decided, from this day Wednesday 7 June 2017, to recall for consultations its ambassador in Qatar", the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia has shut the only land border to Qatar, through which the country of 300,000 gets as much as 40% of its food supply, leading to empty shelves in supermarkets and fears that food and water will soon run out. Kuwait has been mediating among the countries and Turkey has offered to as well.

In a phone call with the Qatari Emir, Trump extended an olive branch, offering to help the parties resolve their differences by inviting them to a White House meeting if necessary.

Trump had previously appeared to side with the Saudis and other nations against Qatar in a series of tweets on Tuesday. It's also the world's largest exporter of liquid natural gas.

He said there are multiple issues at play.

"[This is] as a result of the continued violation of the authorities in Doha of the commitments and agreements it signed, including the commitment to not support or shelter elements or groups that", the statement added. Gause notes that compared to its neighbors, Qatar "is less stringent about regulating the movement of private monies".

Finally, he said, there's "Al Jazeera and other Qatari-funded media, which is just an irritant to these governments because they see Al Jazeera as the platform through which opposition members talk to their own publics". CNN is reporting that U.S. investigators believe Russian hackers may have been behind the effort and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been sent to Qatar to help investigate.
