Bauer allowed all of his runs in the first four innings, but something clicked after the Indians scored four times off Oakland ace Sonny Gray to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona made sure to note that in spite of Kluber's return, fans should not expect him to be back in top form.

Indians DH Edwin Encarnacion didn't play for the first time this season as Francona gave the slugger a day off. Encarnacion has been emerging from a slow start, batting.321 with five homers and 10 RBIs in his last 14 games.

Yan Gomes had an RBI single while Jose Ramirez was 3 for 3 with a walk and two stolen bases.

"I like my strikeouts", he said. "I'm trusting in my stuff".

Four Cleveland pitchers combined to strike out 19, tying a franchise record for a nine-inning game. Francisco Lindor belted his team-leading 12th homer of the season as that was the only run the Tribe would put on the board in the loss. "His breaking ball was so good and he was crisp right from the get-go". "I've just tried to simplify things". "Sometimes you're going to give up runs". Trevor Plouffe drew a leadoff walk in the fifth before Pinder hit a 2-2 pitch into the bleachers in left field to cap the first multi-homer game of his career. "Any run in this kind of ballgame is going to detrimental". While Manaea had a nice outing in his last start, he won't be able to follow it up against Cleveland.

Cleveland has gotten better efforts from its rotation and offense - areas the Indians have struggled with for much of the season - over the last three games. Ramirez slid into the bag as Davis caught the ball. Santana, with a head-first slide, was originally called out but after a double-review situation in which the A's (23-30) challenged the safe call at first and the Indians challenged the out call at home, both situations turned in the Indians' favor, as replay showed both runners were safe. "He ended up sliding so obviously he didn't hear the crack of the bat".

Adam Rosales' hard-hit grounder skipped past Lindor at shortstop, but Brantley's throw from left field got Healy at the plate.

Athletics: SS Marcus Semien (fractured right wrist) has begun playing catch for first time since undergoing surgery on April 18.

Indians: RF Lonnie Chisenhall has progressed well in concussion protocol. He hasn't played since May 22. Jharel Cotton will start the series finale and is 3-5 with a 5.56 ERA and 40 strikeouts this season.

Corey Kluber came off the disabled list to pitch six scoreless innings and the Cleveland Indians benefited from three errors by the Oakland A's that led to five unearned runs in an 8-0 victory Thursday afternoon at Progressive Field.

The 31-year-old right-hander was originally forced to the sideline back on May 2 against the rival Detroit Tigers due to a strained lower back.
