Following Monday's win, he embraced his mother, Wanda Durant, on the court.

Golden State completed an unprecedented 16-1 run through the National Basketball Association playoffs, registering the second-best average playoff point differential (plus-13.5) in league history.

The Golden State Warriors claimed their second title in three years after exacting revenge on the Cleveland Cavaliers, 129-120, in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at the Oracle Arena Monday night.

"Talib took to social media this week to mock Durant: "@KDTrey5 u a suburban kid!

"We had a moment", Lue said.

General Manager Bob Myers, who helped assemble the Warriors lineup after the franchise spent years as the league's laughing stock, and savvy owner Joe Lacob fill out the rest of the team.

"I want to say a special "thank you" to (assistant) Mike Brown for keeping this ship sailing smoothly while I was out". "I'm ready to do it again".

"I'm not happy at all", said James, the first player in NBA Finals history to average a triple-double.

LeBron James has 12 points and so does Kyrie Irving for the Cavs.

Which all set the stage for Monday's home victory, the first of the club's five titles won in front of loyal San Francisco Bay area supporters.

At the time, Durant called the lead-up to his decision the most challenging few weeks of his National Basketball Association career, and even said it was not about winning titles but about personal growth and quality-of-life choices.

"Somebody asked me about it a couple months ago, a hypothetical, if a championship were to happen, what would I do", Curry said.

Durant drove left, right and down the middle, knocked down three-pointers, dished and dunked. The Cavaliers made another push in the third quarter, but the Warriors ended any doubt in the fourth. The Cavs never were closer than eight points the rest of the way. The Warriors also got a huge game from Andre Iguodala off the bench, as he contributed 20 points in 38 minutes and dutifully locked down Irving and James. "That was this whole thing: 'Who is going to take less shots?" Not to mention a healthy one after his 2016 injuries.

When it came time to reflect on the series, Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue pointed to the final 2:13 of Game 3 as the difference. "They're so fast, they get out in transition". He and West went at each other face to face. Thompson and Smith confronted West and all three of those players got technical fouls.

Following the game, Durant paid tribute to Cavaliers' LeBron James, who scored a game-high 41 points. He had 10 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in the clincher. Odds are, this is not the last we see of them.

"There's no such thing as a failed season when you put in as much work as we've done", James said.

ESPN proudly announced Tuesday the 2017 NBA Finals between Golden State and Cleveland on ABC was the most-watched NBA Finals since 1998, according to Nielsen.

Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green lands on Cleveland Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson in the second quarter of the 2017 NBA Finals in Oakland.
