Shortly into Anthony Munroe's tenure as president of a northern New Jersey college, the school suspended and ultimately fired an adjunct professor after a heated appearance on Fox News in June. She addressed the matter during a public meeting Tuesday with school officials, but was soon fired.

In a statement released Friday night, newly appointed Essex County College President Anthony Munroe said the school received complaints about adjunct communications professor Lisa Durden after her June 6 appearance on "Tucker Carlson Tonight".

According to AP, Durden was suspended with pay on June 8, two days after the interview aired, when college officials say they received complaints about her comments.

Asked by Carlson to explain why a NY chapter of Black Lives Matter hosted a "blacks-only" Memorial Day party, Durden defended the group for wanting to have "one day for black folks to focus on ourselves". "Racism can not be fought with more racism", Munroe wrote in a statement announcing Durden's firing. On the show, Durden's comments included, "You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card to get invited to the Black Lives Matter's all-black Memorial Day Celebration", and "We want to celebrate today".

He also noted that although Durden did not mention her affiliation with the school during her television appearance or claim to be representing its views, "her employment with us and potential impact on students required our immediate review into what seemed to have become a very contentious and divisive issue". "The character of this institution mandates that we embrace diversity, inclusion, and unity".

Durden compared her experience to that of a rape victim blamed for the crime, or a person returning to a hostile environment from war. Instead, she said, "I was sacked". Her lawyer said the two are considering taking legal action over her firing. "Wow", said Durden, who is black and a BLM supporter.
