One of the top defensemen in the 2017 National Hockey League entry draft went to the Dallas Stars, who used the No. 3 overall pick on Miro Heiskanen, a smooth-skating defenseman from Finland. Heiskanen played in Liiga, Finland's top pro league last season and more than held his own.

In the U-20 World Junior Championship, he recorded one assist in six games.

Miro also won best defensemen honors and was named to the tournament all-star team after leading all skaters in assists and all defensemen in point at the 2017 U-18 WJC. That's not a knock - the guy is a two-way stud who just doesn't make a mistake. "He's very complete; plays a 200-foot game and makes a very smart first pass".

"Heiskanen is listed at 6'1", 172 pounds and turns 18 years old in about three-and-a-half weeks (July 18).

The Stars now possess the 29th pick of the first round, which will take place later tonight, and six picks tomorrow: one in the 2nd round (39th overall), one in the third round (70th overall), one in the fourth round (101st overall), one in the fifth round (132nd overall), one in the sixth round (163rd overall) and one in the seventh round (194th overall).
