"Ryan Blaney gave me a heck of a push", Larson said. "The 3 Chevy was really, really fast, and it was cool to win it". Great Father's Day present for myself and all the other dads out there. "Looking forward to a great race today". "Normally, we'd practice in groups and draft each other and see how the cars were driving in traffic but nobody really did that yesterday".

Larson won a five-lap shoot-out over Chase Elliott and Joey Logano for his third career Cup Series victory.

The Team Penske driver finished third, marking the first time in six races that Logano has placed in the top 20.

"We just got really loose there in the last round", Harvick said. "All in all, it's a good season so far and we'll continue building on what we've got". Kyle Busch is 130 points back in third place.

"I thought it was a pretty good lap", said Jones. As Busch darted away as the field accelerated, Larson got to his quarterpanel and used the air to slow him down. "Just had to keep fighting all day". "That's why he's in the top 10". But as Truex fell back, Larson recovered and eventually got back up to second. Larson was first off that restart too, only to be slowed by another caution after a multicar incident on the backstretch that included Danica Patrick being knocked off the track and into the wall. And in both of those stages, he claimed wins after passes on Larson.

Although he finished second in the first qualifying round, Busch did not think he had the fastest vehicle. Last race: Brad Keselowski won for the first time in five series starts in 2017. "We had a few bright spots, but we couldn't get it there at the end". "But inside lane restarts at the end just killed us". The four drivers ahead of him took two tires. Granted, you need to find ways to make your lineup stand out to win a larger tournament, but avoiding the obvious best plays just for the sake of being different isn't a smart strategy.

Larson is second in points.

Martin Truex Jr. won the first two stages of the race, but finished sixth, ceding the points lead to Larson.

Kyle Busch was leading before a caution came out for debris on lap 181 for four laps. Once again, Larson was ideal and jumped to a half-second lead. Clint Bowyer was third in the Haas-Automation Ford at 201.664 miles per hour.

Sure, he is starting at the back of the field in a backup auto at a track where he been hit and miss, but Johnson thrives in situations like this, and all the red flags should lower his ownership. Ty Dillon wound up in the back after his qualifying attempt on Friday was disallowed because of an unapproved body modification.

In Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Larson graduated with high honors, using a series of exceptional restarts to win his second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race of the season and his second in a row, dating to last August, at the two-mile track in the Irish Hills.

Elliott finished second to Logano last June at MI and second to Larson in August. Larson has won the last two races at MI, following up his August victory that was his first at the Cup level. The Cup Series has just 37 entries this weekend, the smallest field since Martinsville in September 1996. And those three drivers Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth are in the top 10 in the points standings.
