New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin was arrested after allegedly attacking a man at a New York City nightclub, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

Mauldin is being charged with misdemeanor assault after turning himself in, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. Mauldin, listed at 6-4 and 259 pounds, is accused of punching Lopez, who reportedly stated the beating occurred as a result of his spilling champagne on the inside linebacker in Chelsea's Highline Ballroom.

If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail. His lawyer said Lopez needed surgery to fix "multiple maxillofacial fractures".

"We have been monitoring developments and this matter is under review of the personal conduct policy", National Football League spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

In addition to the criminal case, Mauldin has also been sued in civil court by the alleged victim - who says he suffered several broken bones in his face from the beating.

Mauldin's attorney disputed the allegations.

He has been limited to mostly special teams work and bit player parts on defense since being taken in the third round in 2015.
