Philadelphia 76ers teammates Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons indicated Thursday night that the pressure already is on. "Learning from him every day, it's truly a blessing".

Johnson explained one of the reasons behind the trade was wanting to find a leader for the Lakers on the court.

You do if you're Magic.

That is high praise for someone that is yet to play a minute in a Lakers uniform, but Ball is a supremely talented player.

The Clippers are actually under their same management with Jerry West tacked on, a small move that went a long way, seeming to multiply their considerable charisma.

During his opening remarks, Johnson challenged the 19-year-old: "There's [sic] some jerseys hanging on that wall".

Ball looked up. Baylor, Goodrich, Abdul-Jabbar, O'Neal, Worthy, West. Johnson.

Who would've thought that LaVar Ball would get to perform in the Staples Center before Lonzo.

It turns out LaVar Ball didn't hurt his son's National Basketball Association draft chances after all and Ball celebrated by delighting in everyone else's annoyance. They will amplify it. "So it's definitely a dream come true and I just want to thank God".

Johnson and General Manager Rob Pelinka are staking their credibility as National Basketball Association executives to Ball. The relationship between Buss and Johnson is of legend, the pair out on the town, going to boxing matches together, the Kings of L.A. It was that relationship that ultimately guided Jeanie Buss to replace her real brother, Jim, with the man who her dad always treated like another son. "Come see me when he does, I'll have another hat on that says 'I told ya so'". "That's something we got to talk about further down the line, but as of now we are trying to be a premium brand, so we're trying to be at the top". We're going to sit and watch film together. "I told you I would speak it into existence". LaVar Ball: "Alright, we just gotta talk strategy".

"Lonzo, just leave me one or two records, okay?"

"I'm happy to be home, and I'm ready to get to work", Ball said as he formally joined the Lakers on Friday after getting chosen with the No. 2 overall pick. It's fun to me. Bryant is a young and mobile big with a lot of upside and potential.

Following the selection, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka spoke in a manner that suggested their decision had been made for some time.
