The Macomb County Sheriff's dive team found late Saturday morning the body of a man who went missing Friday in Lake St. Clair while trying to aid a fellow boatmate, the county sheriff's office reported.

The Macomb County Marine Division responded to a distress call at approximately 8:05 p.m. from a passenger of the boat. The caller stated a 45-year old Redford Township man who went into the water to retrieve another person who had gone in had not been seen for 10 minutes. The Sheriff's Office said the second passenger had a life jacket on, but it was not secured and came off the passenger once he was in the water. They joined the U.S. Coast Guard at sunrise to resume the search. "We want to remind everyone who goes out on the water to understand the risks, always be vigilant to help minimize accidents, always wear a life jacket and have a working knowledge of your safety equipment". No foul play is suspected at this time.

It is the third rescue the the Coast Guard has been on Friday, with two boats that took on water earlier today, one of which had 18 people aboard.

The 44-year-old man was located and recovered by the Macomb County Dive Team under water and near the location where he went into the water. It is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the incident.
