Gopal Baglay, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman, sent a tweet from the meeting quoting Modi as saying that thousands of reforms had made India a place of "minimum government, maximum governance", the Indian Express reported. He has previously accused Delhi of "stealing" U.S. jobs by paving the way for manufacturers to leave America and set up shop in India. They reaffirmed their commitment to growing with India and attest to its attractiveness as FDI destination.

Gopal Baglay, spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, also tweeted and said the GST could be a "subject of studies in USA business schools".

India, along with China, is now aiming to lead the world into a more sustainable future after the USA withdrew from the Paris climate agreement earlier this month. "But he can help Trump to think of India as an opportunity rather than as a problem", said Dr Tellis, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

"The biggest change in India today is that every Indian want to do and is already doing something with resolution to change and develop the nation", he said.

He meets Mr Trump later on Monday.

In his concluding remarks, PM Modi stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries for start-ups, innovation and for tapping the huge potential that India has for intellectual, educational and vocational training.

Among the examples of invest opportunities he gave was one in tourism through the development of hotels in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at 500 railway stations. "Now terrorists have explained terrorism to them so we don't have to", Modi said at a community reception at the Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

Meanwhile, leading U.S. congressmen asked President Trump to press Modi to remove barriers to United States trade and investment during their meeting on Monday, Reuters reported.

But a senior Indian government official said Modi is prepared to dive into this complicated discussion by highlighting the value Indian Americans have contributed to the US economy, including an estimated 64,000 jobs.

Several media reports have said the United States has already approved the sale of 22 predator Guardian drones India had sought for its navy. Unlike Modi's famous reception in 2014 at the Madison Square Garden in NY, which was attended by tens of thousands of people, Sunday's reception is invitation-only. Trump has been a little cool towards India.

The agenda is also likely to cover some complicated issues like the H-1B visas, Paris climate pact and Make in India.

"Especially after the nuclear deal, the relationship between Washington and New Delhi has emerged as a concern among Chinese strategists", she said.

Trump's administration has meanwhile indicated it could take a tougher stance on Pakistan, which India has long accused of harbouring militant groups.

Relations between the world's two largest democracies had warmed under Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, as India seeks greater foreign investment and trade ties.

President Trump, Rao said, is a multi-billionaire businessman, who had nothing to do with politics, never been an active politician but has risen with massive popular support to be elected as US President.
