Nancy Pelosi is hurting Democrats at ballot box, Rep. Tim Ryan says

Earlier this year, Democrats had a list of some 60 House races they hoped to make competitive; Georgia 6th wasn't even on the list. David Gergen, senior political analyst, and former presidential advisor to Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Raegan, and Bill Clinton, told CNN that the results should serve as a warning to the Dems to never underestimate Donald Trump and his party's capacity to win against them.

Pelosi went on to condemn Republicans who attack San Francisco.

"I'm saying I'm not looking at this as a loss", she concluded.

Ms Handel comfortably won the seat vacated by health and human services secretary Tom Price in the sixth congressional district of Georgia, beating Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff. She has the "overwhelming support" of her caucus, she said.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), a rising star in the party who unsuccessfully challenged Pelosi for the top job in the House past year, said he felt it "will be very hard" to win back the chamber in the 2018 midterms, despite President Trump's historic unpopularity, because of Pelosi. Trump wrote, referring to Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

BENNETT: Pelosi still has broad support among House Democrats. And then she continued: "At some point we have to be willing to say that yes, lots of conservative voters are hateful and willing to embrace bigots". Republicans - including President Donald Trump - have professed their glee that she's still minority leader. Unless the Democrats start winning more than just moral victories against a deeply unpopular president, her days as party leader could be numbered. I am a strategic, politically astute leader. "That would be very bad for the Republican Party - and please let Cryin' Chuck stay!" Well, we'll disagree on whether it's fair or justified (believe me, it is), but at least some people within the party are starting to wake up. "But, clearly, these ads using her, linking her to our candidates is still working".

Pelosi also incorrectly predicted that Democrats were poised to take back the House previous year, leading some of her colleagues to feel that this time around, she needs to deliver.

With Republicans controlling both chambers, and President Trump in the White House, now isn't the right time for new leadership, she said. "We're losing the ability to connect with voters on what the hell they think about every single day". "This race proved that Democrats have a real shot at taking back the House in 2018".

"I think I'm worth the trouble, quite frankly", Pelosi said.
