But in Monday's opener, Pittsburgh scored three goals in a four-minute flurry late in the first period for a 3-0 lead and then went 37 minutes without getting a shot on goal before hanging on for a 5-3 victory. His 19 points is also the highest playoff total by an American-born rookie.

After going up 2-0 in last year's Stanley Cup Final, the Penguins dropped Game 3 on the road in San Jose.

There to thwart their early opportunities was Rinne. In 24 playoff games a year ago, he had 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) while centering the "HBK Line" between left wing Carl Hagelin and right wing Phil Kessel. Defenseman P.K. Subban said the team was "extremely confident" and in the prospect of going home, where the Predators are 7-1 during the playoffs.

The Preds didn't score with their partial five-on-three advantage - Malkin also drew a questionable penalty for hooking - but they broke through with their first lead of the series on a goal from Aberg. He eluded Olli Maatta before forcing Matt Murray out of position and finding the back the net.

It's Aberg's second goal of the playoffs. The Predators would storm back defensively, and not allow the Penguins a single shot in the period while they added one goal to start their climb back on the scoreboard.

Crosby is plenty familiar now, though, as he and the 22-year-old have spent plenty of time on the ice together. The goaltender was hugging the left post and seemed to have blocked any gaps.

After the Pittsburgh Penguins chased him from the net in a 4-1 win on Wednesday, he might want to get back to that happy place again. Bonino was killing a 5-on-3 penalty after Pittsburgh's Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin were in the box.

The Predators, who hadn't lost two straight playoff games this spring until the Final, hope to feed off the enthusiasm of their fans in Game 3. The group, with help from an engaged forward group, limited shots in and around Rinne, won puck battles along the boards and escaped the defensive zone with seeming ease.

The Penguins pulled even four seconds after the end of a fruitless power play.

It is happening again this season with another impact rookie.

Wilson upped the lead to two a few minutes later, finishing a rush with Kessel.

Rinne told reporters he knows who is starting in net for the Predators.

Guentzel tapped home a loose puck under the left arm of Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne at 16:27 of the first. He was replaced by Juuse Saros.

It stayed 4-1 after Pittsburgh's Matt Cullen was ruled offside following a coach's challenge of a goal by Patric Hornqvist. Defensively, the Pittsburgh Penguins are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 79.8 percent of their power play chances.

Nashville owns a 64-39 shot advantage over the first two games and has dominated possession for portions of the contests, but the Penguins have been able to convert on their attempts, scoring three quick goals in the first period of Game 1 and the third period of Game 2. The country music star and wife of Nashville captain Mike Fisher, already in hot water these playoffs for her social media thoughts on officiating, made it clear she felt the refs were out of line.

P.K. Subban and Malkin dropped the gloves for a fight after all the scoring.

Goal - Nashville: Rinne (L, 12-6-0), Saros (2 shots, 2 saves).

Subban came very close to guaranteeing a win in the moments after Pittsburgh's 4-1 win Wednesday night.

The Predators say Jackson will take the stage on Lower Broadway about 2 1/2 hours before scheduled puck drop of Game 3 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
