Those prices should continue to drp to a new 2017 low in the next day or two, analysts predict. At the start of this week, gas prices averaged $2.27 across the Sunshine State, dropping 6 cents from the start of last week and 3 cents below where things stood at this time a year ago.

The national average was higher than the state's at $2.29 on Monday. Florida gas prices averaged $2.27 on Monday, dropping 6 cents during the past week - and 3 cents less than this time a year ago. That is a drop of 4 cents from the start of last week.

The state average for a gallon of regular fuel was about $2.12 in Monday's survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. "It looks like even OPEC's best move to thwart supply increases hasn't done much thanks to US oil production, which has charged back like a bull". American motorists are the big winners here, as they fill their tanks for a summer road trip. "These low gas prices should stick around for a while until oil prices change course". The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area saw an average of $2.37 on Sunday making it the most expensive area in the state. Miami followed at $2.33 with Fort Lauderdale right below it with an average of $2.32.
