Starting this week, the road in front of the presidential office, Cheong Wa Dae, will be completely open to the public day and night, 24-7.

The road stretches between the presidential press center of Chunchugwan near Samcheong-dong and the plaza with a fountain in front of the presidential office. The rule was put in place back in 1968, after armed North Korean forces infiltrated the premise to assassinate then-President Park Chung-hee. The new administration is hoping its efforts to make Cheongwadae more open to the public will make it a popular spot in the capital to visit. Prior to today, the road was blocked off from eight PM to five-thirty AM.
