Rory McIlroy and fellow top players miss the cut at US Open

A total of 55 courses have hosted the PGA just one time since the event first began in 1916.

The player who turned the U.S. Open into a soap opera of sorts the previous two years won't be around for the weekend this time. "Part of that is just age and part I'll give credit to Johnny McLaren (his caddie), credit to my wife and my little boy". "It's a big golf course with lots of rough but it lets you play". "Obviously, today I definitely had something to show for it".

"That means I'm a part of history", he said.

"I feel really good about just about everything else", Spieth said.

His wavy brown hair and light beard would make him fit right in on the North Shore of Oahu, although he's from Southport, England.

Casey started the second round just one shot behind Rickie Fowler, and he tied Fowler briefly with a birdie on the par-4 11th hole before dropping a shot on the 12th. He had five three-putts over the two days (Jordan Spieth, playing in his group, had none) and averaged 2.0 putts on the 24 greens he hit in regulation (that's 0.23 higher than his average this year, which only ranks 177th).

His 13-foot putt for birdie at the par-5 seventh moved him to 3 under for the day and 4 under for the tournament.

Day, who had made the cut at every major since the 2012 PGA Championship, followed up his opening round 79 with a 75, leaving the Australian anchored near the bottom of the leaderboard at 10-over.

At least he'll have plenty of company at the airport.

Johnson's exit came after world number two Rory McIlroy and world number three Jason Day also missed the cut after disappointing rounds.

McIlroy however, who is returning from a hip and back injury, put a fearless face on his second consecutive missed cut at a US Open following his exit at the halfway stage in 2016.

"We both love the game and we love to do it together, so we thought it would be a great experience together", Perschke said. "We get to go home today because Daddy played poorly".

The cut was projected at one-over.

World No 1 Dustin Johnson looked set to make it when he got back to level par for the championship with six holes to go.

We will have to see what adjustments they make to catch up to Ricky Fowler, who has a one stroke lead. On the 12th tee, they told him he might be penalized and he played the final seven holes not knowing how big his lead was.

"I will not go to the local qualifier where your chances of getting through are not quite like winning the lottery numbers but it's three or four spots from 100 guys, and that's not the kind of odds I am looking for".

Brendan Steele hits a drive on the fifth hole during the second round of the U.S. Open golf tournament Friday, June 16, 2017, at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis. "Then clawed all the way back and actually picked up one more to the good by the time we were finished". "Oh gosh, Jimmy, be good", he said to caddie Jimmy Johnson when the ball was in the air, and it was close to flawless. He said he'll play a lot and work on his putting in advance of the British Open at Royal Birkdale next month.

Reed, who beat Rory McIlroy in the first singles contest at Hazeltine a year ago and was wearing the pants from his Ryder Cup uniform, said: "You always can take that fire from Ryder Cup and use it in other events".
