The investigation into collusion between Russian Federation and President Donald Trump's campaign is unchanged, ongoing, and "just getting started", despite the White House's "besmirchment" attempts against special counsel Robert Mueller, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Sunday.

Trump's focus has been to get investigators to... "His lawyer wants to take down Bob Mueller", Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told ABC News' This Week Co-Anchor Martha Raddatz in an exclusive interview Sunday. "And I think the answer is they want to lay the foundation to discredit whatever Bob Mueller comes up with". "They're essentially engaging in a scorched-earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor".

Trump has in recent days expressed frustration with Rosenstein, who has the authority to fire Mueller. He has also repeatedly condemned the ongoing probes that involve his associates as a "witch hunt".

Additionally, people have been speculating for weeks whether or not the President is going to fire Mueller.

Though, those suspicions looked ready to end when Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, told a Senate subcommittee he saw "no cause" to remove Mueller from his position, according to the New York Daily News. He also said he has "every problem" with Mueller's investigation, and finds the special counsel's public friendship with fired FBI Director James Comey "weird". "He is just getting started". I don't think we should acquiesce in the besmirchment of this good man. "I can't go into the particulars of our closed investigation".

Gingrich said that the dismissal did not impede the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe, and that Trump fired Comey because his public behavior was "destructive".
