Roy had made 67 from 45 balls before the incident and had put England in control of the match but the hosts struggled after his dismissal and slipped to a three-run defeat.

Domingo returned to Port Elizabeth today and will miss the remainder of South Africa's Twenty20 series with England, which continues at Taunton on Friday and concludes in Cardiff on Sunday.

Speaking to Sky Sports 2, England captain Morgan said: "It was a turning point".

In keeping with a contest between two sides that are a blend of first-teamers and fringe players - cricket's contractual obligations have long since trumped the out-dated notion that worldwide sport must always be best versus the best - England are likely to give debuts to Dawid Malan and Craig Overton, making it five new caps in the space of three matches.

It took Curran just two balls to strike, removing Proteas opener Reeza Hendricks. Cue wild celebrations from the 22-year-old. Livingston refused it and Roy had to race back to his crease.

De Villiers continued to accelerate, getting down on one one knee to Willey and powering a huge six over his shoulder and into the River Tone.

Tom Curran was called up halfway across the world to England's senior squad in the Caribbean as cover for the injured Jake Ball in March after impressing in the Lions" unofficial "Tests' in Sri Lanka.

It was a controversial decision, to say the least, as he made a wide turn half way down the pitch but then ran a straight course to make his ground when he was hit by a throw from the fielder Andile Phehlukwayo.

But Farhaan Behardien's 32 proved highly useful.

Many successful Surrey sides have featured sets of brothers, be it the Bedser twins, Alec and Eric, who starred in the club's run of seven consecutive County Championship titles in the 1950s or the Bicknells, Darren and Martin, who featured in the team that won three Championships at the turn of the century. Bairstow creamed a glorious cover drive for four off Morris to get off the mark before Roy rocked onto his back foot and powerfully swatted Phehlukwayo away through midwicket for another boundary. He has waited a long time for his opportunity in England's limited-overs teams and the evidence of the last couple of weeks suggests he is determined to take it. "He's altered and he's seen where the ball is coming from so he's got to go".

The deciding match will be played at Cardiff.

In the end, England could manage 171 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Roy was the next to go and in unusual circumstances, to say the least.

Captain AB de Villiers promised South Africa would "fight our way back" after England thrashed them by nine wickets in the first Twenty20 cricket worldwide at Southampton on Wednesday.

England had crushed the tourists by nine wickets in the first match of the series in Southampton.

Only three runs came off the first three balls before debutant Liam Livingstone was run out by Morne Morkel for 16 on the fourth ball. Livingstone was run out and Dawson could only manage four of the eight needed to secure victory from the final two balls.
