The incident occurred on Friday (27 May) after Christian boarded a MAX light rail train at 4.19pm and shouted at the two teenagers "Get the f*** out!, go home". As the 35-year-old entered the courtroom, he yelled about free speech before saying, "Death to the enemies of America". A "Trump Free Speech Rally" and a "March Against Sharia" are scheduled next month at a plaza managed by the USA government.

One of the victims in Friday's Portland hate speech stabbing had Juneau ties. Wheeler urged organizers to cancel a "Trump free speech rally" in Portland and other similar events next weekend, saying they were inappropriate and could be unsafe. Leave this country if you hate our freedom.

Christian has been charged of nine crimes: two counts of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, first-degree assault, two counts of intimidation, and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

According to court documents, the video taken on train showed Christian concealing a folding-style knife and challenging Nankai Meche and Fletcher to "do something" before stabbing Fletcher in the neck.

"We in Portland have this weird tendency to continue patterns that we've done forever and one of them is the same old, just to put it bluntly, white savior complex", Fletcher said in the video.

Christian's next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m. One of the women was wearing a hijab.

As Jeremy Joseph Christian continued his menacing rant, the three men stepped forward because their sense of community, humanity and courage demanded it.

The deadly encounter played out after police say Christian began yelling racial and religious slurs at a teenage girl and her friend who was wearing a hijab.

Macy, even with her headphones on, said she heard Christian before she saw him.

Fletcher got off the train, holding his neck.

Witness Rachel Macy told reporters at the Oregonian she stayed by Namkai-Meche's side as he was loaded onto a stretcher. But Namkai-Meche was closest to her. When Best moved forward to intervene, he too was stabbed.

Also killed Friday night was Rick Best, a city worker who spent 23 years in the military.

Christian, who was being recorded while in the back of the auto, said,"I'm happy now. They are heroes", Wheeler said.

"I hope we rise to the memory of these two gentlemen who lost their lives", Wheeler said.

He told jailers that he has no income, no mental health issues and does not remember the last time he had a permanent address.
