Trump attorney says president not under investigation despite his tweets

And now I get an independent counsel who is going to mess up at least the next year, at a minimum, and who, by the way, you'll notice is expanding his charge.

A source familiar with the Mueller probe said on Thursday that investigators would have to gather a large amount of evidence before an interview with the President would be warranted.

Advisers have been forced to perform post-presidential cleanup in the wake of Trump's tweets and comments.

Jay Sekulow, a representative from President Donald Trump's legal team, said Trump is not under investigation, despite the President tweeting "I am being investigated" this week.

You could nearly hear the groan coming from anti-Trump liberals who were so looking forward to the coming impeachment trial.

Attorney Jay Sekulow appeared on several news programs Sunday and Monday to say Trump is not under federal investigation.

"The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to The Washington Post", Sekulow told NBC television s "Meet the Press". "The timing of the thaw, however, has provoked accusations that the president is trying to ingratiate himself with a key member of a congressional panel investigating potential ties between Trump associates and Russian Federation".

Mr Sekulow's comments seemed to establish the position the president will take on the Mueller investigation, in any public testimony which the attorney said the president was still willing to give.

On May 9, Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating possible collusion between Trump's campaign and the Russian officials.

In Sekulow's case, his appearance on multiple Sunday morning talk shows took on the added urgency of trying to protect his client from admitting that he is in legal jeopardy during a criminal investigation, one that appears to be increasingly focused on whether Trump took steps to interfere with the normal progress of the federal inquiry.

Trump is also under pressure to reveal whether he has any tape recordings of private conversations with Comey.

"Sir, you just said two times that he's being investigated", Wallace responded, looking rather annoyed. "Nice", Trump wrote on Twitter earlier, later repeating his accusation the probe was a "witch hunt".

"They want to lay the foundation to discredit whatever Bob Mueller comes up with", Schiff said on ABC. I don't think that tweet helped him, but it's who he's been his whole life. On Twitter, Trump dismissed as "phony" the idea his campaign colluded with any Russian effort to sway the 2016 US election.

Trump's statements on Twitter are a sign of his frustration with the Russian Federation allegations, said former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich, on ABC's "This Week".

The Senate Intelligence Committee say it's only about 20 percent into its investigation. If WaPo and its five sources were wrong about something as serious as Bob Mueller investigating the president for obstruction of justice, what else have they been wrong about?

The Post, in fact, states in its article about what it sees as an unlikely alliance, that Rubio's membership on the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Russian influence in the 2016 presidential race could be a factor. The president has directed some of his frustration at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Mueller. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses. He spoke Monday on CNN.
