Trump may be referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who in a memo to Trump raised concerns over Comey's performance. Although the White House initially said Rosenstein's memo led Trump to fire Comey, the president later said in a television interview that he did so because of the Russian Federation investigation.

"I think the president is going to address that in the week ahead", Sekulow explained.

Former Trump transition team aides were ordered to preserve any documents related to Russian Federation and the activities of a number of campaign officials, according to a memo issued by the transition team's general counsel office Thursday.

The transition official said the organization has also separately asked the General Services Administration to preserve records from the Trump transition that were transferred to its facilities after Trump's inauguration.

Separately, a former White House lawyer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was nothing stopping Trump or his lawyers from asking Mueller whether Trump was under investigation. "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office".

"The president said last week he would release the tapes of - if there were tapes - of his conversation this week". They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice.

"He s not afraid of the investigation - there is no investigation. there is not an investigation of the president of the United States, period".

Trump is accused of firing FBI director James Comey over his refusal to steer the Russian Federation investigation away from former national security advisor and Trump ally Mike Flynn.

It's unclear why Rosenstein issued the warning or if anyone prompted him to do so.

Brand was very recently confirmed as the No. 3 person in the Department of Justice - she's been acting as the associate attorney general for less than a month.

The "cloud" that Trump has been complaining about for months got bigger and darker this week. If he fires Sessions, Rosenstein would become acting attorney general until the Senate confirms a permanent replacement. Rosenstein, the official who would be responsible for dismissing Mueller, told USA lawmakers he would fire him only with good cause.

Gingrich said he had lost confidence in Mueller because he is a friend of Comey, and said too many members of Mueller's investigative team have ties to Democrats.

"If the president is innocent, why is he afraid of the investigation?"

Some the legal community are saying Rosenstein should stay on, to protect the investigation's integrity, but others say he will need to recuse himself because he wrote the memo the Trump administration at first said was the justification for firing Comey, although Trump later said he'd made the decision himself.

The daily was one of several media that reported that Trump himself is being investigated on allegations of obstructing justice. He's increasingly focused his anger at both Rosenstein and Mueller, according to advisers and confidants, viewing the two as part of a biased effort to undermine his presidency.

Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow does the rounds on the Sunday morning talk shows. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the laywer's internal order sent Thursday.

Trump s fledgling presidency has been battered by allegations - being dissected both by Congress and the Federal Bureau of Investigation - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with the former real estate magnate s campaign team.

The White House has directed questions to outside legal counsel, which has not responded. Pence headed the Trump transition until Inauguration Day.

King at the time noted that the matter was not just about the Trump campaign.
