Department of Justice-appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller is conducting what is generally called a preliminary inquiry into possible obstruction of justice involving President Donald Trump, as it pertains to his broader investigation into Russian meddling in the USA presidential election.

"I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth", he told Wallace.

Attorney Jay Sekulow is defending President Donald Trump's use of social media, even though Sekulow himself has denied d, even though Trump's recent tweets.

Trump had posted earlier in the morning that Sekulow would be appearing on the Fox program, but the tweet was later removed.

Trump backers outside the administration, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, have said they do not believe Mueller can act independently.

"The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation", Rubio said on CNN's State of the Union, adding that he has "no reason" to doubt Mueller and his investigation.

An attorney for Jared Kushner says she advised the president's son-in-law to review his legal team after her former law partner was appointed as special counsel.

The Washington Post reported on June 14 that Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who was appointed after Comey's termination to oversee the Russian Federation investigation, had widened his probe to examine if the President attempted to obstruct justice, or intentionally tamper with investigations surrounding himself or his associates. While Mueller is ultimately accountable to Rosenstein and must run requests for resources and significant moves, like convening a grand jury or filing criminal charges, past him, Rosenstein is largely divorced from the day-to-day proceedings of the investigation. I didn't say investigation... Mueller's office has taken up that work, and the preliminary interviews scheduled with intelligence officials indicate that his team is actively pursuing potential witnesses inside and outside the government.

To the contrary: Thanks to The Washington Post, we now know that collusion is only one of three subject areas that the FBI investigation, now led by special counsel Robert Mueller, is exploring.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has not yet opened an obstruction of justice case against President Donald Trump, and hasn't even made the decision to do so. Kushner has been represented on business matters and other issues by Jamie Gorelick. Abbe D. Lowell, a prominent trial attorney who represented Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff in a 2005 corruption scandal and is now representing NJ Sen. Kushner has denied any improper contacts with Russian Federation. The New York Times also reported that Mueller was seeking interviews with Coats, Rodgers and Ledgett, although the report only described these interviews as an "indication" that Mueller was investigating if Trump obstructed justice. As Rachel noted on Friday's show, the White House balked soon after, arguing that just because the president wrote, "I am being investigated", it doesn't mean he's being investigated. The denial comes days after Trump appeared to confirm he is being investigated, sending a tweet complaining that he is the target of a "witch hunt". "Thank God I don't need you right now Jay Sekulow". Two days after the Post story ran, and with no official confirmation from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, himself a former FBI director who is now overseeing the Russian Federation investigation and, according to reports, the investigation into Trump's possible obstruction, Trump issued the following statement via his Twitter account.

"I want to be very clear about this, the president is not and has not been under investigation", Sekulow said and repeated throughout the day.

Also on Sunday, Trump pointed to a new poll that showed, he claimed, that his approval rating had surpassed that of President Barack Obama.
