Turnovers doom Cavs in 113-91 Game 1 loss

But after the initial rust was brushed aside, well, hoo boy.

The Cavs were actually successful in limiting the Warriors three-point game, holding them to just 10-for-30 from behind the arc but losing the turnover battle by such a large margin made this one nearly impossible to win for the CAvs. The high-level, high-intensity frame featured a flurry of dunks, blocks and just general holy-crap-that-was-awesomeness. Durant joined Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal and Rick Barry in scoring 25 or more points in his first six NBA Finals games, the prior five with Oklahoma City in a 2012 loss to the James-led Miami Heat.

James wound up with 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists in a statistically fine evening of play that you know James won't be celebrating.

The result was never in doubt for most of the second half and the fourth quarter was an extended garbage time, with Golden State's lead ballooning to 24 before Durant, Curry and James all sat for the final minutes. Curry made 14 of 24 shots with the sleeve and scored 36 points.

Quick background for those just tuning in: Rihanna is #TeamLeBron, as we'll show a little later. "My heart goes out to him", NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said.

"Kevin's a competitor", Green said.

The 51-year-old Kerr had left open the possibility he might feel well enough to return to the bench by Thursday's opener against the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers at Oracle Arena.

McGee responded to that assertion on Wednesday, saying he basically didn't give it any weight.

Kevin Durant backed McGee at the time in February, calling Shaq "childish" and criticizing his free throw shooting.

Mike Brown expects to coach the Golden State Warriors as planned in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Brown addressed the media pregame on Thursday and said he hadn't yet spoken to Kerr.

Warriors: Steve Kerr had hoped to feel well enough to return to the bench but stayed behind the scenes in the locker room as he continues to deal with complications from back surgery almost two years ago. Golden State finally warmed up after nine days off, while the Cavs had a six-day break since beating Boston in the Eastern Conference finals. He underwent a procedure to fix a spinal fluid leak on May 5 at Duke University but said he is still ailing and in debilitating pain.

Pushing their record unbeaten playoff start to 13-0, the Warriors seized a 1-0 edge in the best-of-seven championship series, which continues Sunday in Oakland before shifting to Cleveland for games three and four.

The Golden State Warriors certainly came out like a team anxious to atone for and eliminate the sting of losing last year's NBA Finals after building a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers, only to be on the wrong side of an historic comeback. The last time it happened in any major North American team sport came in 1954-56 when Detroit and Montreal squared off in three straight Stanley Cup Finals.

This will be star-studded affair with Golden State's Kevin Durant joining the mix as one of seven 2016 All-Stars in the series. Curry became the fifth player in National Basketball Association history with 300 career playoff 3s after coming in with 295.
