Two militants killed in Jammu and Kashmir

Bhat along with another militant, Faizan, was killed in a gun-battle with security forces in the Saimoo area of Tral on Saturday.

"Our policy towards terrorism and terrorist organization is absolutely clear".

To avoid any incidents, mobile phone services have been blocked and schools and colleges have been closed in Sopore area, a police officer said.

"In Kashmir now there are two factors that need to be tackled with great consistency".

Meanwhile, officials said Pakistan initiated firing along the Line of Control in Naushera and KG sectors on Thursday morning, ANI reported. Three terrorists were gunned down in the encounter that went on for over 8 hours.

Terrorists yesterday hurled grenade at a Police party near Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Sopore. According to police grenade thrower was caught on a CCTV camera in which four policeman were injured.

While most of the encounters in the recent months have been happening in the southern districts of Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama, a senior police officer said that north Kashmir has more militants active on the ground.

Since the end of October 2016, armed robbers have struck at various branches of banks in Jammu and Kashmir, looting almost Rs. 92 lakh in 13 separate attacks.

Director General of Police S P Vaid said the slain militants were locals who belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen and were behind an attack on a police party.
