US OPEN: It's a great day for scoring at Open

That led to a meeting with NBC and Golf Channel producer Tommy Roy, which led to Leonard working five tournaments last year, which led to him receiving a two-year contract. "I'm more motivated by the fact that I've made a plan and I've stuck to the plan so far. Someone has a very good chance of ending up with their first major tomorrow".

"I know if I get caught up in that it's not going to do any good". I had no idea that 9 under was the best ever in an Open, so that was pretty cool once I saw my card. "So I'm excited about all those things".

Unheralded American Brian Harman has taken a dramatic third round by the scruff of the neck to lead the US Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

The 40-year-old Hoffman is playing in his sixth U.S. Open. I'm not willing to step out on that limb yet. He two-putted for birdie, and he rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt on the 17th. If he wins on Sunday, he'll have earned it.

The player who turned the U.S. Open into a soap opera of sorts the previous two years won't be around for the weekend this time. He showed spunk after holding off Johnson at Wells Fargo, a victory that secured him a spot at Erin Hills.

Kevin Kisner is a bit further behind with a 4-over after Saturday.

Unless the USGA backs some tees up to Lambeau Field and hides a couple of pins in that healthy fescue, it seems more likely that the final round will be more of the same - with plenty of low scores, wild lead changes and more uncertainty right up until the bitter end. However, he's also never done at this level.

"Those were tough shots", Fleetwood said. Add Justin Thomas to the list of golf greats below.

Out of high-profile struggles has come opportunity.

Brooks Koepka (-11): The American stud has been super steady all week with rounds of 67,70, 68.

"If you look at the golf course and you even talk to me, Jason or Rory, this course sets up ideal for us", Johnson said. "But I just felt like I could get it up in the air enough to hold the green as soft as they were". But the Ryder Cup helps. I think that's probably the most amount of pressure I've ever played in. But I did get a massive break on the 15th.

"We're breaking down all kinds of barriers", Harman quipped. He's a classic third round leader who fades. He has birdied three of his last four holes. Dustin Johnson dusted him.

"I'm hungry", Thomas told reporters.

Rickie Fowler is fifth at 10-under, followed by South Korea's Si Woo Kim at 9-under.

It took until this, the 117th staging of the US Open, for a player to post a round of nine under par in this championship. But Reed is in the mix heading into the final round, just four shots back of Harman at 8 under.

Shortly after Thomas finished off his record round, Paul Azinger said on the broadcast what many might now be thinking: "I'm scared of Justin Thomas". "But, obviously, I enjoyed going low". Making sure I just don't get ahead of myself. He might, but he also (incredibly) doesn't have a top 10 at a major yet.

Russell Henley is tied for seventh at 8-under after shooting a 5-under-par this Saturday.

This is the first time in 25 years that the U.S. Open has played as a par 72. It's still a U.S. Open.

Enjoy the festivities on Sunday.
