The Golden State Warriors are the National Basketball Association champions after completing a 16-1 playoff run one season after a record 73-9 regular season.

Following the Golden State Warriors' 129-120 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals that clinched their second title in three years, the headlines were all centered on Kevin Durant and how he claimed the Finals MVP.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (23) hugs Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry after Game 5 of basketball's NBA Finals in Oakland, Calif., Monday, June 12, 2017. "I left everything I had out on the floor every single game for five games in this Finals, and you come up short".

"I do know me and KD had a conversation along with Draymond and Klay and Andre past year before he even showed up that that was kind of the identity of who we are as a team that we understand how important it is, the guys that are here", Curry said.

After the Game 5 loss in the 2017 NBA Finals, he stated that he was never a part of a superteam. Cleveland enjoyed a 41-33 lead in the second quarter Monday before the Warriors ripped off a 28-4 run.

James is keen to make that team his Cavs, even if it means trading away a fellow star like Kyrie Irving, or more likely, Kevin Love. However, the Warriors were still able to overcome and reclaim their title from Cleveland, which beat them in last year's NBA Finals.

Curry and his teammates blazed through the playoffs, finishing the postseason with an impressive 16-1 record, matching the NBA's best mark. In that half alone, LeBron tallied 18 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and a block, making plays like this one along the way. Andre Iguodala added 20 points.

While the Warriors haven't formally met to discuss whether they will visit President Donald Trump's White House as is customary for championship teams, Curry said his mind hasn't changed from when he was asked earlier this year about the possibility.

For Durant, the 39 points in the close-out game was fitting as he claimed the first title in his 10-year career.

During his absence, Kerr was still involved at practice, but he handed the game day responsibilities to assistant coach Mike Brown. "We don't want that to taint what we've accomplished this year, so we'll handle that accordingly and responsibly and do the right thing for us individually and as a group". This is Kerr's seventh championship, five of those as a player and two as a head coach.

Durant was named MVP of the finals, 10 years after being taken second overall in the National Basketball Association draft. "They're assembled as good as you can assemble, and I played against some really, really good teams that was assembled perfectly, and they're right up there". He also lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, minutes, and field goal percentage.

J.R. Smith shot 7 of 8 from beyond the arc to finish with 25 points for the Cavs.
