Police have closed down several streets in the Terrace Heights neighbourhood in east Edmonton after an early morning fire broke out at an apartment complex Monday morning. Fire officials say crews found smoke coming from the building with two people trapped on the second floor.

Firefighters managed to mainly contain the flames to the suite where the fire originated, and later in the evening crews were still on the scene looking for hotspots.

At the peak of the fire, the entire building at 7314101 Avenue was fully engulfed, and part of the roof has since collapsed.

A cause of the fire is not yet known, and a damage cost had not yet been determined.
