Wonder Woman film faces calls for it to be banned in Lebanon

"They felt like an imposition on landscape, which didn't feel like something that women are jonesing to do".

A few years ago, DC Comics chose to rejuvenate its superhero movie universe line-up (motivated by the Marvel movie success) using Wonder Woman as one of its main players. Diana rescues him and ends up insisting on following him back to Man's World to join the war effort. "She also can be very vulnerable, confused naive and anxious, but fixed on her mission, so I like everything about her because she's not ideal".

Some Lebanese social media users complained about the campaign, mocking it as a waste of time because viewers would be able to find the film online.

It may be damning Wonder Woman with faint praise to point out that it's the best entry in the DC Extended Universe to date, but it's worth noting that it achieves this status by largely shunning the unremitting grimness and portentous bombast of previous entries in the franchise.

Despite her mother's reluctance, Diana trains with Antiope to prepare to fight Ares, god of war, who has gone into hiding after a battle with Zeus.

Finding herself in 1920s-era Germany, the resulting adventure not only forces Diana to discover her identity as Wonder Woman - and its accompanying powers - but it unleashes some secrets about her past that put her in peril, facing dangers that only she can solve. In real life, we bring life. We have babies. We have careers. Over-the-top German villains with bad accents; a ragtag group of mercenary heroes; an alien superhero eliciting laughs while trying to assimilate into normal society.

Wonder Woman's Diana is ultimately an idealized abstraction more than a fully rounded character. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. But even more than that, this also makes Wonder Woman the first film in the DCEU to be certified fresh, with its 96% rating sitting high above Man of Steel's 55%, Batman v Superman's 28%, and Suicide Squad's 25%.

But eventually director Patty Jenkins ("Monster") falls into the same pattern as Zack Snyder who helmed "Man of Steele" and "Batman v. Superman".

At its core, Wonder Woman is about watching a badass female kick some ass. World War I is the first time that civilization as we know it was finding its roots, but it's not something that we really know the history of.

So Nielsen felt entitled to question why, on an island populated by only women, her character would wear high heels. But the conservative choice also happens to be the right one, and the film has the scale and storytelling clarity to sell the mythology and give Princess Diana the stature her many titles suggest. "I was bruised all the time, but nothing major", she says.

"You could say that I felt some pressure". For Robin Wright, who was raised on the "Wonder Woman" TV show, training and shooting with the Amazons was the best part. "That's a different energy on the set, and great for us".

She called Jenkins "the biggest cheerleader of them all". "There's a deeper musical note happening here that I think if it touches some people out there, and they take it to heart, is very, very important".
