A female Doctor Who? Theresa May approves

The 34-year-old actress, known for shows like Broadchurch, will be the five-decades long sci-fi series' Thirteenth Time Lord. In this spirit of numerical upheaval, we have decided to look back on twelve of the best things about this incarnation of the Doctor.

Former Doctor Who companion Karen Gillan chanted her congratulations by writing "Jodie Jodie Jodie Jodie Jodie!" on her Twitter page, alongside party popper emojis, and Downton Abbey star Tom Cullen concurred, "Suddenly #DrWho is appealing. YES!" A Lord is a male and a lady can't become a Lord.

She replaces actor Peter Capaldi, who has been in the role since 2013.
