"I would treat it like a deadly poison, because it is", Sean Fitzgerald, the lab's director, told ABC11. Asbestos can have long-term that effects that take time to manifest when consumed and inhaled.

WTVD/ABC-11's report also points out that while Justice likely did not intentionally use contaminated talc, stricter testing methods should have been enacted, since asbestos is especially harmful to children who are still developing and growing.

That's certainly concerning when we're talking about an ingredient that's commonly found in both drugstore and luxury makeup brands - not to mention talcum powder, which is commonly used on babies.

According to Fitzgerald, talc, a common element found in cosmetics, was the main ingredient that turned out to be polluted with the toxic contaminant. "In this powder designed for children, they could die an untimely death in their thirties or forties because of the exposure to asbestos in this product", Fitzgerald said. Talc forms in the earth, as does asbestos, and sometimes the two get mixed together. In 2009 and 2010, the agency did test samples of talc from four suppliers along with 34 makeup samples and found no asbestos fibers in any of the samples tested.

The lab also found heavy metals like barium, chromium, lead, and selenium in the shimmer powder, according to the station. "The more lead you have in your system, the more negative health effects you're going to have".

"Justice is committed to the safety and integrity of our products. We can not speculate regarding the matter while we investigate". Upon receiving an inquiry about the Just Shine Shimmer Powder product, we immediately began an investigation and, out of an abundance of caution, stopped the sale of this product in our stores and on our website.

Parents are being warned about kids makeup products. You can also find products that are talc free.

While the product has been removed, this report raise concerns about how safe cosmetic products are. or aren't. On this site you can search for different types of makeup, food sources, and household cleaning products and see how what you are using rates on the EWG scale of low, medium, or high hazard.
