Astros' Dallas Keuchel to make first rehab start Monday in AA

According to a report, ace Dallas Keuchel will make his first rehab start on Monday.

Keuchel, who hasn't pitched since June 2 to recover from a pinched nerve in his neck, is scheduled to pitch two or three innings in the outing against Frisco at Whataburger Field. The lefty will likely need multiple starts in the minors before he comes off the disabled list, but the Astros haven't yet determined exactly how many he will need. The question is if a rotation led by 2015 AL Cy Young victor Dallas Keuchel can bounce back a year after injuries and inconsistency kept the team from reaching the postseason. Though Astros manager A.J.

"I don't know, to be honest with you", Keuchel said. "I think I'm on the way back but only time will tell".

Keuchel put up some of the best numbers in the majors for the Astros before he was injured, going 9-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 11 starts to bounce back from a tough 2016 campaign.

It's his second stint on the disabled list this season with the same problem. "As much as I'm going to push it on Monday, I'm going to be a little bit anxious for Tuesday but at the same time a little excited just because of how I feel right now".

So, while the Astros certainly want Keuchel back, they can afford to be careful and patient with him.

"There's really nothing there anymore", he said. "It (depends on) how I feel on Tuesday and then how I continue to progress".

It's certainly a promising sign that Keuchel is not only returning, but feeling good.
