The US president has drawn headlines for the attention he paid his French counterpart's wife, Brigitte Macron, during a European visit.

Bishop countered Trump's awkward moment where he told Brigette she was "beautiful" and in "good shape" with a question that will leave Trump jetting for a treadmill.

He then turned to her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, and repeated, "She's in such good physical shape".

Australia's foreign minister described it as "a rather interesting comment".

"I certainly urge Russian Federation to comply with the (UN) Security Council resolution and do all it can to help bring these people to account", she said.

"We will work as hard as we can to ensure that the families of those who were killed do receive justice and can have some closure after this atrocity that occurred three years ago", Ms Bishop told ABC TV on Sunday.

Mr Trump, 71, reportedly believes exercise is misguided and can lead to an early death while Ms Bishop is well known for her running regime that not even gruelling overseas trips interrupt.

She said she would be "taken aback" if Mr Trump said a similar thing to her.

Bishop declined further comment on the Paris remark, but added an unprompted observation on Trump's use of social media, saying she wouldn't "run a commentary on his Twitter account".
