Sam Bird won Saturday's round of the first ever NY ePrix after an action-packed race which concluded with a two-lap sprint following a late Safety Car period.

The DS Virgin Racing driver combined strong pace and a ideal strategy to easily defeat the chasing Mahindras of Nick Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist. After sweeping the doubleheader, the DS Virgin Racing driver is already looking forward to his next visit.

The result saw Bird become the second driver in Formula E history to complete a weekend double (the first being Nicolas Prost, London 2016), as well as capping off a flawless weekend for DS Virgin, the team leaving NY with two poles and two wins.

"I will be writing a letter to [Formula E CEO] Alejandro Agag asking if we can have the whole championship here next year", Bird joked in his post-race presser Sunday afternoon.

Rosenqvist's teammate Nick Heidfeld tried to make a move but failed to do so.

Luckily for Gasly, he was still able to cross the finish, but the final results had Sam Bird taking it overall, followed by teammates Rosenqvist and Heidfeld taking P2 and P3 respectively, with Gasly finishing P4.

"Was the same maneuver as yesterday and the race went down the same", Bird said of his race tactics.

Further down the grid it was disappointment for Bird's team mate Alex Lynn, who was unable to show the speed that he managed to get pole for yesterday's race. "What a auto I was driving this weekend".

Formula E returns in two weeks' time with the season-ending double-header in Montreal, Canada. Fortunately for the DS Virgin strategists, the green flag did not return until moments after Bird exited the pits still leading, dodging a bullet that could have sunk his win hopes.
