Meanwhile, he is looking forward to work with young chaps as a mentor of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for VB Thiruvallur Veerans.

These are tough times for Sri Lankan cricket.

Retired great Muttiah Muralitharan sees very little chance for Sri Lanka when they face India at home in the upcoming series. How different is the TNPL experience going to be?

In a short-spanned league, such as TNPL, the coach, usually, is wanting in time to study each and every member of the team. My role will be to encourage the team and lend more awareness to the players. He, however, promises to be with Veerans on most of its matches, and, "if the boys want to know anything from my side, I can help them from my experience".

The world's leading wicket-taker has been part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad coaching setup in the recent seasons alongside Tom Moody and VVS Laxman but made no secret about his love for CSK. In Sri Lanka, I'm not too sure how the pitches will play. Sri Lanka is not playing well and they can capitalise on it.

Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan said that he is looking forward to working again with the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the IPL after the former champions' two-year suspension came to an end earlier this week. Without being aware of the situation, I don't think it will be right for me to comment. However, there is a problem. For years, they kept their key players, but now the team is all scattered. Because myself or Mahela (Jayawardene) or (Kumar) Sangakkara won't be a solution because Sangakkara is playing cricket, Mahela is coaching like me, I am mentoring and have contracts with other teams.

"I'm just the mentor, Bharathi Arun is our coach. So, they will have to look for a solution themselves", he concluded.

After a victorious West Indies tour, India will next travel to Sri Lanka to play 3 Test matches, 5 ODIs and one Twenty20 match.

"Obviously, India will start as favourites". But there can be a surprise. What is the retention policy, we don't know.

Muttiah Muralitharan who represented Chennai Super Kings for three seasons from the inaugural edition in 2008 said it would be hard for the two-time champions to form a formidable side now. He always had the talent. In fact, according to me, he is a smart cricketer. MS Dhoni also deserves credit for guiding him in the right way when he first came into the IPL. Ashwin is now just going from strength to strength.
