Pakistani Rights Activist, Malala Yousafzai, has advised the Federal Government to declare a state emergency on education to address the challenges in the sector. "We had a fruitful discussion with his excellency, the acting president", she said.

Speaking with journalists after meeting with Osinbajo on Monday, Malala said she spoke of the importance of the education of boys and girls during her encounter with the Nigerian leader.

"It was a very good meeting".

Africa's most populous country has some 10 million children of school age who do not attend, government figures state.

According to Malala, her goal is to ensure that children, particularly the girl-child's right for quality education, is protected. I was really happy to hear positive response from the acting President that they are happy with the suggestion of implementing declaration of emergency in education and that they are happy to work more on education and that they are united.

She urged state and local governments to pay more attention to the goal which she described as fundamental and called for transparency in the investment towards education as well as the implementation of the Child Rights Act.

Yousafzai said she was "very happy" to see some of the girls, who are staying at a government-run facility in Abuja.

Malala was on October 9, 2012, shot in the head by a Taliban gunman as she rode home on a bus after taking an exam in Pakistan's Swat Valley because she had spoken up for the right of girls to be educated. reports that the 20-year-old Malala, who was accompanied by her father Yousafzai and other members of the Malala Foundation, arrived at the presidential villa at about 5.30 p.m and was received by Acting President, Prof.

The murder attempt sparked a national and global outpouring of support for Yousafzai.
