Dejan Lovren backs Mohamed Salah to succeed at Liverpool

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has claimed that new signing Mohamed Salah is "perfect" for the club.

Salah became Liverpool's all-time record signing when he joined from Roma for an initial £36.9 million this summer and the Egyptian winger received his first run-out for the Reds in the 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic in a pre-season friendly on Friday.

Salah's pace adds to that of Sadio Mane - whose African Cup of Nations and injury absences last season coincided with a dip in form for Liverpool - but Lovren warned that both Salah and Dominic Solanke will have a fight on their hands to make it into the starting XI.

"We saw [Salah on Friday] and we will see more of his qualities". He needs more time as he's only had six days with us and everything is completely new [but] I think he will be ideal in this system.

They then travel to Jurgen Klopp's native Germany, where they play Hertha Berlin in the capital before travelling south for two more matches in the Allianz Arena, one of which is against the mighty Bayern Munich.

"Quality players are always welcome but we have other players like Mane, Phil (Coutinho) so I think it will be a hard job to get in the first XI with so many good players".

Liverpool are hopeful of tying up an £8million deal for Hull left-back Andrew Robertson, although not in time for him to fly out to Hong Kong with the squad for the Premier League Asia Trophy, while they are also pursuing RB Leipzig's Naby Keita as their primary midfield target.
